Florida's Forgotten Coast

Florida's Forgotten Coast is a collection of unique coastal Florida communities, each with its own distinctive personality. Located east of the Emerald Coast (Destin and Panama City), this area has been spared much of the overdevelopment Florida's western panhandle has experienced. Click on each of the communities on the map for more information and photos of each area.

The Bay and Gulf County areas have many exciting factors that make Mexico Beach the perfect location.  Mexico Beach is located on the eastern edge of Bay County and borders Gulf County on the west.  This ideal position between two time zones on the coast poses a rare opportunity to live in a prime location where economic growth is expanding.

An exciting addition to our area is a new airport.  When completed, the new Panama City-Bay County International Airport will open many travel channels.  It is expected to be opened in May 2010 and will include runways, a seven-gate terminal building, control tower, rental car facilities, public safety building, and other maintenance and utility facilities.  In addition, the St. Joe Co. has plans to begin developing about 1,000 acres near the entrance of the new airport near West Bay.  It is targeted for industrial, commercial and services-related use.

A new highway - The Gulf Coast Parkway - will provide a strategic network for connecting and enhancing the existing economic entities in the region.  It would be the missing link in the regional transportation network by:  (1) Stimulating the economies within the region; (2) Improving regional mobility and upgrading evacuation routes; (3) Increasing security at the Air Force Base; and, (4) Relieving traffic congestion overall.

In addition, Sacred Heart Health System is building a new 25 bed hospital and medical complex in Port St. Joe.  The project includes:  (1) A community hospital, an emergency department, an intensive care unit, and patient rooms; (2) An urgent care clinic to treat minor injuries and illnesses; (3) Laboratory services; (4) Diagnostic imaging services such as CT scans, x-ray, ultrasound and mammography; (5) A medical office Building to provide offices for 10 physicians; (6) A helipad to be used by Sacred Heart's AirHeart helicopter, providing rapid transport for trauma patients and critically ill patients to a Trauma Center; and (7) Roads, delivery areas and paved parking areas for approximately 370 vehicles.
